Danielle founded Make Food Not Waste in 2017 as a way to reduce household food waste. Since then, the organization has become a leading voice for food waste reduction in the state of Michigan. Make Food Not Waste currently provides statewide food waste reduction programming, operates two Upcycling Kitchens in Detroit, and offers technical training for food service operations. Danielle is a frequent speaker on the topic of food waste and holds an MBA from Wayne State University and a BA from the University of Michigan. Prior to Make Food Not Waste, Danielle worked for a nonprofit working to increase the awareness of the importance of bats in our ecosystem. In her free time, Danielle most enjoys being among the trees and also enjoys gardening, running and hiking. On her most recent trip to the BeeHive in Maine, she learned that her kids are much braver than she is!

Are We Even Friends?

12PM-12:45PM

The outdoors doesn’t live in a silo, and neither should we. From trails to tables, wellness to wilderness, many of us in the recreation, conservation, food, health, and outdoor sectors are already working toward shared goals. So why does it sometimes feel like we’re on parallel paths instead of walking together?

This candid conversation with thought leaders sit at the intersection of these overlapping worlds. We’ll unpack the hidden connections that already exist between our fields and explore what it really takes to activate a more visible, inclusive, and powerful outdoor movement — from the inside out. Expect big questions, honest talk, and a few laughs as we ask: Are we even friends…and if not, what’s stopping us?
