Jacob Hurt joined the Region 2 Planning Commission in 2020 as an Economic Development Planner and became Executive Director of the organization in the fall of 2021.  In addition to the overall management of R2PC, he oversees regional land use and recreation planning projects, transportation planning, including the Jackson MPO, the Region 2 Economic Development District, and the Southern Michigan Outdoors initiative. Jacob is a member of the Michigan Association of Regions, the Michigan Association of Planning, and the International Economic Development Council.
 
Prior to joining the Region 2 Planning Commission Jacob served as the COO of the Jackson Anchor Initiative.  A seasoned professional with over 25 years of experience in economic development, Jacob has also served as a municipal planning director and a private consultant.  He is a graduate of Indiana University and resides in Jackson.

Building a New Outdoor Economy

Seeking to improve the area’s economic health the Region 2 Planning Commission, through its Southern Michigan Outdoors initiative, is utilizing outdoor recreation to drive regional economic development by leveraging the area’s outdoor assets.  Among the initiative’s goals: growing the local workforce by retaining and attracting more talent; promoting new and existing outdoor recreational opportunities; planning new events aimed at attracting visitors; and leveraging the region’s manufacturing heritage to become a leader in rec tech.
