Jacquie
Medina Ed.D

Jacquie Medina Ed.D., is a Professor at Northern Michigan University. She is the Coordinator of the Outdoor Recreation Leadership & Management undergraduate degree program and teaches in the Administration of Outdoor Recreation and Nature-Based Tourism MS degree. Jacquie has been working in the outdoor industry for over 30 years with experiences teaching in higher education outdoor academic programs, leading extended wilderness trips, and facilitating outdoor education and experiential education programs. Her passions include fostering play, human nature relations, experiential learning, arts & culture, and DEI in the outdoors.
 
Jacquie is an NAI Certified Interpretive Guide and Trainer, ANFT Certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide, and trained in Permaculture, Sustainability, and Life-Centered Design.
Jacquie’s scholarship and service include collecting oral histories of outdoor recreation in the Upper Peninsula, serving on the Marquette Shoreline Cultural Trail Steering Committee, and advocating for health benefits and DEI in the outdoors. Jacquie enjoys spending time with her family and pets, going for slow wanders, traveling, paddling, and playing in all types of water including striving to complete the Hiawatha Water Trail.

Preparing Future Leaders in the Outdoor Industry

Explore curriculum design, development of key skills and abilities (KSAs), and the practical applications of the outdoor recreation-focused academic programs at Northern Michigan University through collaborative projects and research. Attendees will engage in small group discussions to identify the outdoor industry’s needs for professional development and workforce training, and to brainstorm ideas for enhancing the synergy between academic programs and industry demands.
