Julia was born and raised in Alpena, MI and first joined Huron Pines as an AmeriCorps member in 2022 as the Lake Huron Forever Engagement Specialist. During her service, she coordinated water quality projects with coastal communities and engaged volunteers in the protection of Lake Huron. After her service term, Julia joined Huron Pines full-time as the Land Protection Coordinator. In this role, she works to protect natural spaces for both community and ecological benefit, combining her experiences in community driven conservation with her background in biology. She also leads engagement efforts on preserves, getting people excited about the outdoors through interpretive and community science programs. Outside of work hours, Julia enjoys hiking, painting, paddling, photography, and growing native plants.

Learn about how Huron Pines, a small-ish conservation non-profit serving Northeast Michigan, is evolving their community engagement and technical assistance programming to bring needed capacity to our rural, traditionally underserved and under-resourced communities. These unique partnerships are successfully creating new outdoor recreation experiences for local residents and positioning City, Township and County officials to strengthen local quality of life, invest in their outdoor recreation economy and design projects in a way that protects local natural resources.
